Laptop bag / Tote

PURPOSE

For this project the intention was to create a clean, minimalist, canvas tote bag that one could wear daily. In this project I wanted more experience on the serger machine and the use of recycled material.

PROCESS

I created my tote pattern, and cut fabrics to size. I used a Juki sewing machine to do majority of the work, and used the serger to finish seams, so the edges don’t fray or unravel.

I took a basic tote bag pattern and modified it’s dimensions to fit my laptop. I cut a pair of old jeans and sewed a canvas-like lining on the inside. Then I folded the side flaps inward and sewed the adjacent sides together, completing the bag

Denim Kimono

PURPOSE

I wanted to challenge myself to create a wearable piece of clothing, playing with sizes and dimensions.

I also wanted to learn how to use sewing machine and repurpose old clothes.

PROCESS

I started off sketching patterns and decided to make a more boxy kimono with a distressed look on the ends of the sleeves and edges of the seams. I learned patience and how to use a seam ripper on this project, as well as gained more experience sewing.
